Kenya Safari Journal -
Day 03
Another day at Samburu National Reserve. We started out just as the sun was
rising, around 6:15 local time. We were fortunate to run into a
cheetah in the bush, and later, a lone
impala. We literally almost ran into
an elephant
(2)
(3) and her
baby
(2).
Unique to this area are the Oryx.
We also saw a large herd of
impala, of which two males were
fighting.
Some elephants were walking
single file, including a
mother and daughters,
and continued off into the distance.
The reticulated giraffe
(2)
(3) is able to eat leaves from the
Acacia elatior tree by using their long tongues to avoid the thorns and they
are often found in groups.
As the sun set, we headed back
to camp.
