I have a team in London, some of whom I had never met in person, so I was due to visit them. I already had a trip to Europe planned for Tomorrowland, so I decided to add on a couple days in London before and another day after, to get to visit the team there.
The plane ride was pretty uneventful until we got to the gate and the captain told everyone to stay seated until the police could handle a situation. They had 5 police vans meet the flight and then numerous armed officers boarded the plane to deal with some rowdy teenagers. Apparently these kids had just graduated high school and illegally bought some alcohol in the US before boarding the flight then proceeded to get super drunk on the flight and harass the flight attendants. After we landed, it took the police a full hour to negotiate with the kids to bring them off the plane and into custody. Read more in the Standard's article
Drunk US teens arrested at Heathrow after chaos on Virgin Atlantic flight from LA. That got me into the office a little than I had intended, but I still had a full day there.
Took the tube on the Elizabeth line to London Liverpool Street station and then walked over to the beautiful new Bishopsgate building. Just had some light snacks during the day and then checked into my hotel and went out for a nice steak dinner. The next day, I had a full day in the office and learned a lot from my team about their day-to-day. We went to this restaurant owned by Wetherspoons in an old bank. They even had netting covering the ceiling in case any of the cement pieces fell. Had dinner on my own at a pizza place and walked around the town to explore.
The next day, got up early to
fly to Amsterdam. Came back after Tomorrowland for one more day in the office and had a lovely dinner with my friend Robert at the fancy Hawksmoor.
