My first trip to Tomorrowland! I had heard about this festival but it seemed unapproachable, being in Europe. But since I had already done A State of Trance in Amsterdam twice already, including this year, I guess I no longer had an excuse. Harris and I had a tough time getting tickets but were able to get Dreamville Global Journey single occupancy tent camping, which included a free tent and air mattress. That actually turned out to be a pretty good option, but more on that later. The Global Journey included train tickets from London which was good since we could still get our own airfare on Delta and be able to get miles. So we flew into London and I met up with Mark Snyder, my former Assistant Store Mananager from my Apple Retail days in Atlanta. I hadn't seen him in many years so it was good to catch up over a drink and then we stayed there for dinner too.
The next day, we got up and headed to the train station to begin our journey to Boom, Belgium. There were quite a few other people of Tomorrow on the train but it wasn't exclusive. Once we arrived to the train station in Brussels, you started seeing more of the Tomorrowland decoration. They had people dressed up at each turn you had to make through the train station and then right outside, there was a big tent where you checked in. We then hopped on a bus to bring us to Tomorrowland. I was expecting the bus ride to be about 5 minutes since I thought the festival site was right in Brussels, but it was actually a good hour long bus ride through the city to a small town called Boom. As the driver navigated this big bus through the small European city streets, many of the houses had flags from Tomorrowland hanging up and some folks were sitting outside just to wave.
Once we arrived to Dreamville (the place where everybody camps), we picked up the included tent, air mattress, and sleeping bag. It was our first time there and we didn't really know where to go so we wondered around a bit since there were numerous different "zones" where you could set up camp. The first zone was packed to the gills, and then you walked through the "downtown" area where all of the shops and food stations were, and then past the Dreamville stage area, before you got to the rest of the camping. I was confused at first looking at the map and thought all of the camping was on this side of the shops, but once we walked through, we realized that there was actually a LOT more camping areas. Harris and I got separated so we set up our tents individually which was fine. After staking my tent near some strangers in a pretty good spot, I explored a little bit, listened to a few songs at the stage. There was a bit of a line to share the single air pump to blow up your air mattress, but I figured the line would be worse later. Once I got that done, I headed back to the stage until they stopped around midnight. I decorated my tent with some LED lights and then headed off to sleep.
