We flew into PVR on Saturday and got settled at the resort. This family trip was a big one -- James and I with both sets of our parents plus my sister (Kelly), her husband (Lee), their two kids (Carter and Winston), plus my half-brother (Joey) and his wife (Sandy). We had 12 of us across two 3-bedroom suites. It was a crowd!
I spent most of the days scuba diving on my own so most of the photos in these albums are underwater. I mostly dove with
Vallarta Adventures which overall was a good tour company, but a little more touristy than I was looking for.
On Sunday, I traveled with them to
Los Arcos Marine Park. I had to take a taxi out to Puerto Magico in Puerto Vallarta since I didn't book until the last minute and that was the only availability they had. It was about a 20 minute taxi ride even though it was only a couple miles.
The water here is surprisingly warm for the ocean -- it ranged from 84 degrees to 88.
Our first dive was at "Devil's Canyon" which was a fairly deep site at 62 feet.
Saw quite a few octopus. Lots of pufferfish and eels too. Saw a tiny Jewel Moray Eel (half inch diameter) and a giant Green Moray Eel (6 inch diameter). Saw a Zebra Moray eel which had black and white stripes.
After the Devil's Canyon, it was only fitting that we did Christ's Reef next. Had a fairly short surface interval and then jumped in for the second dive.
Saw a Spotted Eagle Ray which was really cool. And a cornetfish.
