After an overnight layover at JFK and a long flight, we landed at
KEF airport. Jeremy and Jillian were on a slightly later flight and our flight arrived early so I took the opportunity to watch the Tech football game on my phone in the airport. James got a kick out of watching me get excited and frustrated.
Jillian rented a car so we piled in to that and headed downtown to Reykjavik. We checked in to the Hotel Borg and started to explore the town to get breakfast. We found this cozy cat cafe and had an American-style breakfast then walked around town.
The first stop was the
Hallgrímskirkja Church which is one of the tallest structures in Iceland. It had a massive organ inside and another smaller one. We paid 1,000 krona to take an elevator to the top to get a view of the city. It was quite windy and still pretty foggy but still a good view.
After that, we wondered some more and found a
street covered in a rainbow. Not sure if it was for gay pride or what, but many of the other roads we'd see on that trip would be more appropriately themed for a Mario Kart-style rainbow road.
