EDC in 2021 was my first ever music festival and I'm writing this journal entry nearly 5 years later. It's fun to look back on how much different the experience was back then and how less crowded the venue was compared to nowadays. My best man, Harris, and I attended as my post-wedding bachelor party to have something fun and unique to do, just to try it out. I didn't know when we first got our tickets how much that would start a whole brand new journey for me.
EDC was originally scheduled for May 2020 which would have been prior to my July wedding, but with the COVID-19 pandemic raging, it was then rescheduled for October 2020 and then later to May 2021, and then again to October 2021. Even then, many folks (myself included) were nervous about a mass gathering after spending a year quarantining at home. I even emailed Insomniac asking for a refund since the Delta variant was spiking at that time and Nevada didn't have any vaccination requirements; they refused to refund us. We attended anyway and I wound up being one of the few people who wore a mask nearly the whole time. I'm so glad that I was able to go.
We stayed at the Park MGM hotel on the strip and commuted each day with Uber/Lyft.
Walking into the speedway from the grandstands for the first time was an awe-inspiring experience. I had heard about EDC many times on SiriusXM but I don't think I realized just how massive and amazing an event it would be.
Highlights from Friday include Nicky Romero, The Chainsmokers, and Seven Lions.
