This morning started with a lecture on Photography composition from guest photographer Cindy. I was nearly ready to skip out on it when there was an announcement over the intercom about a whale sighting off the bow of the ship! We all raced to our rooms to grab our cameras and jackets then to the deck of the ship. I caught a few photos of these beautiful animals as the captain circled the ship wide around the area so we could keep seeing them.
I skipped the next presentation so I could workout before lunch. After lunch, we did a Zodiac cruise in the area around
The Fish Islands. These are a series of islands all named after different local fish. This did not disappoint as we saw numerous amazing icebergs, crabeater seals, and Adélie penguin colonies. We even saw our first
Leopard Seal. Unlike the crabbies, these seals will violently kill and eat penguins. The crabeater seals, despite their name, actually don’t feast on crabs… they eat almost exclusively krill. You can even see one of them drooling red after presumably after eating mouthfuls of krill.
