We were hoping to do one more excursion today to the
South Shetland Islands but when we arrived, the winds were too high to spend any time out in the Zodiacs. Our Expedition Leader tried three different possible sites, but none of them panned out, unfortunately. One of them seemed promising and she even made contact with some scientists that were staying at a base there but when the scout crew tried to land, one spot was too rough and the other was in a protected area.
So no more Zodiac excursions for us. We set sail back to Ushuaia across the Drake Passage. Leaving a little earlier than planned because there is a big storm coming and we want to try to get calm seas.
