My name is Myke. I was born in 1979 in Connecticut and lived in the suburbs of Chicago (Naperville and Oak Brook), then moved to Augusta, GA when I was in Middle School. Our family fell in love with the South (and the lack of snow) so when we moved to Cincinnati, OH when my dad switched jobs two years later, we bought a summer home in Greensboro, GA on Lake Occonee so we could be on the lake. My formative years were spent boating, floating in the lake, or exploring small towns.
After I graduated from Cincinnati Country Day School, I moved to Atlanta to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology. I started in the summer quarter since my SAT scores were just on the border so I had to prove that I could stay enrolled. My freshman year, I came out which was quite a change in my life. I had my first boyfriend and then dated a few other guys throughout college, learning more about myself each time. I started supporting myself shortly after coming out by working at the campus computer store and then started a co-op job with CNN Internet Technologies where I would help process webserver logs, monitor the server farm, and work on customized email delivery. I started carrying a 2-way pager and was there for September 11th and the 2000 Election. My senior year of college, I also started working at the Apple Store Lenox Square as a Mac Specialist.
I loved my time and friends at CNN, but I knew I wanted to be at Apple long-term so I kept looking for corporate jobs on my breaks at the retail store. I eventually interviewed for a Build & Integration engineer position and before I knew it, I was moving to California. I helped work on the Intel Mac transition and then the first iPhone, the iPhoneOS SDK, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV. I moved into a manager position shortly after iPhone came out and built the team up to 18 engineers working 24/7 across 3 countries.
After 7 years in build engineering, I switched up my career by moving into the Recruiting team at Apple where I found awesome interns for Apple, taught an iOS crash course class at colleges, and ran college hackathons. I loved traveling and getting to bring the next generation of great talent to Apple. It was during this time that I met my amazing husband.
As rewarding as that was, I missed being in Software Engineering so I switched back into the Developer Tools team where I was first an Engineering Project Manager for the Swift team. After a couple years, I moved back into management and I now run the build operations team for Xcode.
We adopted a dog, Chelsea, who loves to cuddle and go on walks. James and I got married in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, in our backyard. We then celebrated our one year anniversary as we had originally planned.
We live part-time between South Lake Tahoe and San Jose, traveling back and forth nearly every weekend. In the summer, Chelsea and I love boating on the lake. In the winter, James loves skiing while I snowboard. When we're not in Tahoe, I'm either attending a music festival or we're traveling on an adventure somewhere together. I visited all 50 states before I turned 30, all 7 continents before 40, and am looking for my next goal before 50.
