When an EDM festival shows up in your backyard and promises big name acts like Tiësto and The Chainsmokers, it's hard to say no. This was the first ever "Worlds Away Festival" which took place in Monterey, CA, not too far from home. I think they only really advertised on Instagram and I was a little suspicious that they would be able to pull off a good show, but it actually turned out pretty good. The Monterey County Fairgrounds was a decent venue for the event, especially as a small first year show. There was only a single stage which looked like it was typically used for a rodeo more than concerts, but they still were able to fill the space. The "art exhibits" that they promised where they encouraged everyone to show up early to see didn't really pan out, but that wasn't the real reason for the festival anyway so that was ok. They did have a few merch booths for local companies, and a couple amusement rides but you had to pay extra for them so we didn't bother.
We saw Sam Feldt, Tiësto, and The Chainsmokers, along with a new artist that I had never heard of before, Lauv, who was pretty good. Overall it was a good time and if they do it again next year, I'll certainly attend since it was so close by.
