After going to EDC a couple times, my friend Jillian told me about this other music festival in Michigan called Electric Forest. I had never heard of it before, but I'm not one to turn down an adventure so I said I would try it out. I intentionally did very little research bforehand since I wanted to experience it for myself. Little did I know when I agreed to go that this would turn out to be my most favorite festival ever.
Harris and I picked up an RV from Cruise America and drove the hour from Grand Rapids to Rothbury. As soon as we pulled onto the grounds, random people started flashing us peace signs and saying "Happy Forest!" Many of the attendees were dressed like 70's hippies. I very quickly realized that the culture at this event was going to be like no other. We started saying "Happy Forest!" back to the people greeting us and then initiating it for others who looked lost.
We camped at a site called Lucky Lake which was opened to Forest attendees for the first time this year. We were pretty lucky to be able to get tickets for this area since I think the regulars didn't know what to expect there. It turned out to be one of the coolest parts of Forest for us. Our RV was parked right near the lake and during the day, there were trees to which I could attach my hammock. And the lake was fun to swim in to cool off for a bit or float in a tube.
The artists this year at Forest were also epic -- Cosmic Gate, Odesza, Lane 8, Illenium, Gryffin, Zeds Dead, Opiuo, Madeon, Above & Beyond, and San Holo.
